On 28 September 2024, the Murgitroyd Family was honoured with a Community Impact Award, given by the Carolinas Chapter of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. This award is given to an individual or group who has impacted the community in a positive way.
Emily Gray, Executive Director of the Carolinas Chapter of the CCF, wrote the following:
“We’re especially excited to honor Edward and Beth Murgitroyd and their family with the community impact award for their outstanding dedication to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, their impactful work with the Murgitroyd Foundation, and their extensive support of various nonprofits across the Triangle and around the globe.”
The award was presented by Duke University physician and CCF board member Dr Nancy McGreal, winner of the 2023 Chapter award, at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, NC. The event raised funds that go toward the national organization’s research into new treatments and a cure for Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis.
Brooke Murgitroyd, a singer-songwriter who was diagnosed with IBD ten years prior at age 7, performed an original song written about living with chronic illness for the event with over 200 attendees. She was later invited to perform this song in March 2025 at the Crohn’s and Colitis National Volunteer Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina for staff and volunteer leaders from around the United States.
