In March 2024, Crew 200 were very grateful to receive a grant of £5,000 from The Murgitroyd Foundation for their Nightlife Harm Reduction (NLHR) service. In addition to the information provided in their application, the following info further demonstrates their work during the last year.
Case study: ‘Be Sound’ Campaign and Working Relationship with SWG3 Glasgow
After multiple fatal drug-related incidents involving young Scottish partygoers in late 2023 / early 2024, Glasgow venue SWG3 took a range of steps to educate this demographic on having a safer night out, including inviting Crew 2000 to provide welfare support at re-opening night events and discussing ideas for a harm reduction campaign with younger audience members.
Crew 2000’s CEO joined SWG3’s Club Drugs Working Group, exchanged planning, role descriptions/risk assessments and attended a site walk round and security briefing in February with SWG3, and shared targeted pill and ketamine harm reduction messages as well as advertising our presence at SWG3 events on social media channels to ensure people who needed support could find us easily.
In Summer 2024, the new ‘Be Sound’ campaign was introduced in SWG3. Crew 2000, alongside other welfare support and drug information organisations, assisted in the development of the campaign’s messaging, design, language and information. Crew 2000 worked with young people at SWG3 on their re-opening nights to gather ideas and feedback. ‘Be Sound’ aims to increase nightlife safety by encouraging partygoers to look out for themselves and their friends, utilising accessible non-judgemental language and attractive design.
The campaign was developed further in August with the release of a 60 second video on clubbing and drug safety, featuring a group of club goers and well-known Scottish DJs. The campaign launch reached 42.5K people on Instagram, 4.1k on TikTok, 10.5K on Facebook and 2.5k on Twitter. By the second week, with promotion, the reach had grown (across all platforms) to 897k with 1.5 million impressions.
The Nightlife Harm Reduction Coordinator (NLHRC) went on to organise the provision of nightlife harm reduction at 5 of SWG3’s Summer Yard Events from July to September of 2024. A small team of Crew 2000 volunteers and staff held a stall in the chill out seating area, providing harm reduction resources and support – while informing partygoers about the ‘Be Sound’ campaign. Crew provided support to 1,010 people, and further developed positive working relationships and shared learning with TLC welfare, agency security and SWG3 staff.
We at The Murgitroyd Foundation are delighted to have helped Crew 2000 and support the brilliant work they do!
